Dr. Anthony received his doctorate in Microbiology from the University of Texas, where he focused on the structure/function relationship of virus and host interaction. After a post-doc at the University of Southern California School of Medicine, he started his industry career with a small biotech start-up working in anti-viral drug R&D. He transitioned to clinical development after joining the US division of Mitsubishi Pharma Inc. where he led US development of cardiovascular and oncology drugs. In 1999 he founded a contract research organization (CRO), Catalyst Pharma Group Inc., providing pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device companies services that included preparing regulatory submissions for the FDA, EMEA, and MHLW, designing, managing and analyzing all phases of clinical research trials, and arranging licensing opportunities for client's products. He is also the founder and board member of Topica Pharmaceuticals Inc. (formerly Janus Pharmaceuticals Inc.), a speciality pharmaceutical company in northern California.
His familiarity with both sides of the medical product development process after numerous clinical trials, both in the US and abroad, provides a unique perspective to understanding the clinical, regulatory, and business complexities of today's medical product development environment. Dr. Anthony has spoken at numerous national meetings on the topics of Peripheral arterial disease (PAD), patient recruitment, electronic data collection, IND filing, clinical trial design and ethical issues intrinsic to human research.
